Tigers – Award-winning play returns to Liverpool
Brian Hutchinson based his award-winning play, Tigers, on a recurring nightmare of being chased by a Bengal tiger.
Sixty years later, he realised that the nightmare was a subliminal memory of the abuse he experienced at the age of eight.
Synopsis
The story of Robert, a survivor of childhood sexual abuse, who, during a lucid dream, meets his inner self and confronts his decades of guilt, trauma and shame, ultimately learning to love himself once more.
A powerful one-act play showing how a horrific experience can be transformed into a beautiful, poetic piece.
Directed by award-winning director Samantha Moores.
The characters of Self and Inner Self are portrayed by multi-award-winning actors Peter Merrall and Ted Grant.
Tigers returns to Liverpool
The play will be performed again at The Hope Street Theatre, Liverpool, on Tuesday 22 September 2026 at 7:30pm.
There will also be a Q&A session afterwards.
Reflecting on the play, Brian Hutchinson said:
“I’m so proud of how I have turned a horrific, life-changing ‘car crash’ moment into a beautiful, powerful piece that has a great message of hope for survivors of sexual abuse.”
