We were joined by Katie Bovington, a Postgraduate Researcher at Edge Hill University.

Katie is exploring the ‘overlooked realities of male survivors’ and led a discussion with members about the intersectional experiences of men as they navigate life after sexual violence.

Katie’s research focuses on how identities and social factors influence men who have experienced sexual violence or harm at some point in their lives. She is particularly interested in how factors such as socioeconomic background, ethnicity, age, culture, citizenship, religion, sexuality, gender identity, and disability shape survivors’ lives, their access to support, and how they process experiences.

She is looking to speak with both professionals who support male survivors and survivors themselves. Through interviews, Katie hopes to explore how survivors engage with services and how individual factors may influence their experiences. The long-term aim of this inclusive and exploratory study is to act as a catalyst for further research and contribute to improved services tailored to survivors’ individual needs.
