Safeguarding
A vital area for charities to understand and have the proper governance in place. A good place to start is the Government online portal that links to many areas that come under the banner of Safeguarding.
Software
Udemy.com offer a whole range of online/self-study courses on a wide range of software, often at discounted prices. Skillshare.com also offers online courses focusing on creative classes like photography, video and design as well as business. Get access to the whole library for a monthly subscription.
Trustee boards
Another vital aspect for charities but one that can be difficult, especially for smaller charities. The National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO) and National Association for Voluntary and Community Action (NAVCA) are good places to start to find local consultancy and training. For online resources, The Essential Trustee is essential reading for all trustees.
GDPR
General Data Protection Regulation is another area that can be confusing but is vital to get right. All organisations handling client data are required to register with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) and a self assessment guide can be found on their website.
Fundraising
There is a vast range of fundraising courses available from certificated courses from providers such as the institute-of-fundraising.org.uk to local courses run by Local Authorities. Udemy.com also has online courses and searching Youtube will result in many useful and instructional videos.
Digital
The use of digital such as email, websites, social media and various organisational software is another huge area for charities. Charitydigital.org.uk offer discounted and donated technology from companies such as Microsoft and Google and is a good place to start to find out what you can access for free or low cost.
